Although Latinos make up 14 percent of the U.S. population, only 2 percent of hospital chief executives in the U.S. are Hispanic.

Such disparities must be addressed for the well-being of an increasingly diverse nation. It’s crucial to the nation that healthcare organizations recognize and understand the health needs of their populations. In addition, there is a misdistribution of ethnic leaders in healthcare administration – an issue NFLHE is seeking to remedy by identifying and developing strong Latino leaders.

Health systems and their leaders face many challenges. Some of the most important include maximizing limited resources and building the trust of the communities you serve. Community relationships are critical to the success of healthcare executives and health systems. For one, health systems can further their goals by developing close relationships with community partners. Those relationships yield benefits such as reduced healthcare costs and increased staff loyalty.

NFLHE and its Latino senior health executive leaders are a reflection of nation and the need – on a national level – for diversity in the healthcare system.
