NFLHE promotes a research agenda that explores the attainment and development of Latino hospital and health system executives and the healthcare in the U.S. Latino population.
Healthcare organizations today are challenged to embrace diversity and reach out to the communities they serve. One way for them to achieve that is to encourage fluency in the language spoken by the community, including Spanish. Yet few healthcare systems value and reward fluency in Spanish – whether with additional pay or more opportunities for advancement. Even fewer companies hire and seek out Latino health executives who speak Spanish. To reach out to the community, health systems must speak and understand the communities that sustain them. One step toward that goal is to hire, promote and retain Latino executives.
